About Escuela Bilingüe Internacional
Founded in 2006 as the West Coast's first independent Spanish-English dual immersion International Baccalaureate World School, EBI has grown from a small, visionary community into a TK through Grade 8 educational leader. Our bilingual, inquiry-based approach shows up in the everyday: students explore, create, and question side by side.
EBI is a Spanish-English dual language immersion school. From kindergarten to grade 2 the day is 80% Spanish and 20% English; in grades 3 to 5 it is 60% Spanish and 40% English, moving toward balanced bilingual instruction through middle school.

Yes. EBI is an independent private school in Emeryville, founded in 2006 and serving families across the Bay Area from TK through grade 8. It is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, and classes are small, averaging 8 students per teacher.

No Spanish is required to enter TK, kindergarten or grade 1. For grades 2–8, students with no prior Spanish enter through the Accelerated Spanish Program; grade-level Spanish is required for the Bilingual Program.

Kindergarten through grade 8 are at the Emeryville campus, 4550 San Pablo Avenue. For the 2026–27 school year, TK is located at our Oakland campus. Beginning with the 2027–28 school year, EBI’s Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program will move to the San Pablo Campus, bringing our TK–Grade 8 community together on one campus.

EBI is a Spanish-English dual-language immersion school. Students learn in both languages from the start, building full bilingualism and biliteracy, rather than studying Spanish as a single subject.

Yes. EBI is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School offering the Primary Years Programme and the Middle Years Programme from TK through grade 8, and is accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Priority applications are due January 14, 2027. Families who apply by then have the best access to open spots and to tuition assistance. After that, EBI accepts applications on a rolling basis, based on availability.

About a third of EBI families pay a personalized rate through Flexible Tuition. Admission and flexible tuition decisions are made separately. Ask admissions before ruling EBI out on price.

Escuela Bilingüe Internacional complies with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs and activities.
